Remember, when buying cedar siding, or redwood siding for that matter, be careful about discounted wood products. What this means is that the siding has been sitting around the lumber yard for some time and the lumber company is simply trying to dump old inventory. Siding is meant to be used in a timely fashion from the time it gets milled to installation. The longer the siding sits before installation the more cupping, bowing and checking will occur. Another trick lumber companies use to sell inferior products is they go through the siding and separate out all the high-end material and sell it as a separate, more expensive siding. They then sell the leftover siding at a “discount” but this really means the siding is being sold at market value. Lumber Out West only sells the highest quality western red cedar.
